Frequently asked questions

A hackathon is a sprint-like event in which small groups of young professionals search for innovative and creative solutions for Urban mobility problems. The result can be a program, a prototype, a test model, a tool a design solution or a concept.

Citython is an event created as an evolution of the concept of a Hackathon and Datathon that addresses the increasing skill gap of practical solutions, involving multidisciplinary teams of students to solve real-life challenges of cities, to develop new urban mobility applications, technological tools, prototypes and business concepts in a short time frame.
A TechPill is a short but definitive training/knowledge session on a certain topic (each will last around 30 minutes). The TechPills will offer you cutting-edge knowledge about Open Data, data analysis and visualization and gentrification so you can come up with the best ideas.
Citythons bring together creative and inquisitive minds to solve challenges set by the City Council. Real urban problems! Young professionals from the fields of engineering, architecture, urbanism, computer and data sciences will be brought together in the same place to have fun and experience an intense session of co-creation, hacking and collaboration. The difference from a typical hackathon is that Citythons involve cities directly, teams are multidisciplinary and require the analysis of data to understand a problem and reach to a conclusion. If Covid-19 restrictions do not allow a face to face event, then Citythons are organised online and adapted to current restrictions.
You have to meet the following requirements: You must be at least 18 years old on the dates of the event. You have to apply as an individual on our website. You must have a background in either engineering, data science /computing or architecture/urbanism. If you have both, you are also welcome to join. Find out more about the specific skills required for each background on our website. For further information, read our rules and terms.
Sure! You will be able to attend our TechPills and receive feedback from the appointed mentors during the hack days.

There will be one winning team of the city challenge in each edition (three winning teams in total). Each of the winning teams will be given a financial award. The winning teams will be chosen by a designated jury that will evaluate the solutions based on special assessment criteria. One of the most important criteria will be that the winning teams propose solutions that are feasible and relevant for the city challenges, because these teams will be working with city representatives later on to implement the solutions.

A jury composed of urban mobility experts.
