Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies

The Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies is one of the largest municipalities of the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Area and is located north-eastern part of Thessaloniki. The biggest part of the Municipality is the Seih Sou Forest. As one of the most central and historical areas of Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies has always attracted not only a significant number of tourists but also many citizens. Furthermore, due to its location Municipality has always been at the center of economic and transport evolvement and its contribution to the sustainability of Thessaloniki is crucial.

Hellenic Institute of Transport

The Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) is part of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), a non-profit organization that directly reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Greek Ministry of Development and Investments.

HIT’s main objective is the conduct and support of applied research activities on transportation in Greece, more specifically on issues relating to the organization, operation, planning, and development of infrastructure, the standardization, economic analysis management, vehicle technology, and the impact assessment of land, maritime, air, and multimodal transport services. HIT’s services also include providing training and education activities in related fields, the dissemination of research activities, and the Representation of Greece in Transport Research and other relevant scientific for abroad.

Assist safer access for places that attract children

There are 44 playgrounds in the Municipality, 26 kindergarten and elementary schools, and 18 low-secondary and upper-secondary schools. The municipality tries to ensure the safety of the daily mobility of students by implementing structural and functional interventions. The perspective and needs of the citizens are the first priority for the municipality. The challenge is to create solutions that will support the municipality’s efforts to provide security for children’s accessibility to schools and playgrounds. We are looking for solutions that would facilitate accessibility along with solutions that enhance awareness and support educatively the safe and healthy mobility.

Improve accessibility of the citizens to trial paths of the Seih Sou forest

Seih Sou is a landmark for the city and its role as a main attraction for visitors for leisure activities could be enhanced. Accessibility of trail paths and facilitation of activities on the forest could enhance economic development of the whole municipality. The challenge is to reach more visitors that will be able to access the forest. We are looking for solutions that provide the means tools and services for facilitating accessibility and leisure activities in the forest.

Increase usage of micromobility systems and enhance active mobility

The dominant mean of transport in the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykies is the car and this fact affects seriously the air quality of the city, causing congestion and noise that degrades the quality of life. The challenge is to enhance the usage of micromobility means of transport like bikes and e-scooters and also promote active mobility. We are looking for solutions that either raise awareness of the citizens or introduce new solutions related to micromobility.

Organisational Info & Registration to the Event

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

12th -13th November 2022

Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies, Thessaloniki

Organizers will follow up with all participants via email and will provide a link to online platform.

Online participants will have a possibility to follow all presentations and workshops using this platform and will also have a possibility to interact with speakers.

Speakers presenting online will connect using the same link and their talk will be streamed in the main meeting room as well as online. Both in-presence and online participants will be allowed to ask questions. More specific instructions will be provided before the event.

Dedicated Slack workspace will be also available to all participants and will be used as the main communication channel before and during the event. Online participants will also have a moderator available who will facilitate the communication with the organizing team and mentors. We encourage participants to login and regularly check the slack channels divided into thematic groups (general talks, logistics, challenges, etc.).

Online participants will be requested to sign up for mentoring sessions available on Saturday and Sunday and use a platform offered by each mentor. Online participants are excepted to deliver their final presentations pre-recorded respecting the same deadline as in-presence participants (will be communicated during the event).

All important information will be disseminated in advance on Slack and via email provided by participants. Slack channels will be available 24/7 during whole session.

About Holds PhD degree in domain of geospatial data management from Faculty of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, University of Zagreb, Croatia. His main focus is geospatial data management, development of geospatial services in Python programming language, visualization of geospatial data in open-source application GeoServer and custom visualization of geospatial data in JavaScript libraries such as OpenLayers.

About After obtaining a MSc in European Politics I got involved extensively in EU and intercultural projects. I have also worked at the Joint Research Centre of the EC where I got exposed to research. At KAJO I provide assistance with the management of Horizon projects (communication, finance, deadlines) also providing support in reporting. I carry some research activities related to rural development, environment and climate change (analysis of legislation, gamification, text mining). I am passionate about people and nature, both at professional and personal levels 🙂
